The Top 10 TV Shows of 2012, According to a Bunch of TV Critics

12/19/2012

Hitfix.com has released a list of The Top 10 TV Shows of 2012.  To make it, they had several dozen TV critics list their Top 10 shows of the year, and they used those responses to create a final, master ranking.  Only ONE of the Top 10 shows airs on a major, broadcast network.  That's NBC's "Parks and Recreation".  The Top Seven are on CABLE, and the remaining two are BRITISH shows.

Here's the overall Top 10:

1.)  "Breaking Bad"  (AMC)

2.)  "Homeland"  (Showtime)

3.)  "Mad Men"  (AMC)

4.)  "Louie"  (FX)

5.)  "Game of Thrones"  (HBO)

6.)  "Girls"  (HBO)

7.)  "The Walking Dead"  (AMC)

8.)  "Parks and Recreation"  (NBC)

9.)  "Downton Abbey"  (PBS / ITV)

10.)  "Sherlock"  (PBS / BBC)

In all, 74 programs got votes, and they listed them all.  Here are a few additional highlights:  "Justified" just missed the Top 10 at #11. "Modern Family" came in 13th, "Community" came in 17th,  "Sons of Anarchy" was 19th, and "Boardwalk Empire" came in at #29.)

"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" came in 21st, two spots ahead of "The Colbert Report", which was #23.  In between them, coincidentally, was the ABC sitcom "The Middle".
