Check Out Some of the Trailers of Movies Opening This Weekend
1/11/2013
If you didn't see it over the holidays, "Zero Dark Thirty", about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, expands to 2400 theaters on Friday. Your new releases are "Gangster Squad" and "A Haunted House". Some cities will also screen an Eva Longoria action flick, and a movie written by "Glee's" Chris Colfer. Here are your details . . .
#1.) "Gangster Squad" (R) Trailer
Josh Brolin leads a LAPD task force who go undercover to take down a mobster in 1949. Nick Nolte plays the police chief who taps him to form the secret squad, Ryan Gosling is Brolin's right-hand man, and Sean Penn is the mob boss.
Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Giovanni Ribisi, and Michael Pena round out the rest of the squad. Emma Stone is sexy as Sean Penn's girlfriend, although she eventually hooks up with Ryan Gosling's character. This is the second time Emma and Ryan have been paired together. They were also a couple in Steve Carell's romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love".
Penn and Brolin are another interesting re-pairing. Brolin assassinated him in "Milk", the movie where Sean Penn played the first openly gay politician.
"Gangster Squad" was originally supposed to come out in September. But Warner Brothers decided to push the release date back out of respect for the victims of the "Dark Knight Rises" theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. That's because there was a scene in this movie where the mob shoots up the audience at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. That scene has been cut though.
#2.) "A Haunted House" (R) Theatrical Trailer and the Restricted Trailer
Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins star in this parody of "Paranormal Activity". They're a young couple who move into a new house, where he discovers she's possessed by an evil spirit. Cedric the Entertainer is a priest they bring in to help.
#3.) "Zero Dark Thirty" (R) Trailer
The story of the 10-year manhunt for Osama bin Laden. Jessica Chastain from "The Help" plays the CIA analyst whose intel finally brings him down. It came out in a few major cities just before Christmas, but it's opening nationwide today.
