A Mom Is Paying For a Deputy to Provide Security at Her Kid's School
1/24/2013

After the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school last month, Laura Lauria of Flagler Beach, Florida was concerned about security at her daughter's school. (Laura's age wasn't given. Flagler Beach is 75 miles south of Jacksonville.) Her daughter is in sixth grade at Old Kings Elementary School. And while the county pays for deputies to patrol the high schools, they eliminated full-time security for younger students in 2005, to save money.
So Laura agreed to PAY for a full-time deputy HERSELF. The guy started working at the school on January 14th, and makes $32 an hour. Laura paid for the first two months upfront, which was about $12,000. And she said she'll cover the costs for the rest of the school year, which should be about $22,000.
