A 105-Year-Old Woman Just Passed Her Driver's Test

1/29/2013

Edythe Kirchmaier of Santa Barbara, California had a birthday last Tuesday, and turned 105 years old.   And the next day, she had to go to the DMV, to RENEW her driver's license.  They made her take a driving test, and she PASSED.

She took her first driving test in 1927, in a Ford Model A (see below).  (She would have been 19 at the time.)  Calvin Coolidge was president, and Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs for the Yankees to set a record.  It was also two years before the Great Depression started.

Edythe drives a 1997 Dodge Caravan now, and still works at a non-profit called Direct Relief International, where she's worked for the last 40 years.

She's also active online.  She has a Facebook profile, and Facebook said that she's their oldest member.
