We might be becoming a more accepting society, but there's definitely still a stigma attached to a guy taking his WIFE'S last name.  And in a case like this, there's not just a stigma, it can actually get you into LEGAL TROUBLE.  In 2011, 40-year-old Lazaro Sopena of Boca Raton, Florida married 32-year-old Hanh Dinh.  Hanh only has four sisters, and was devastated that her family name was going to end with her. 

So Lazaro volunteered to change his name to Lazaro Dinh.  He filled out all the usual paperwork, got his name legally changed, and went to the DMV to pay the $20 name change fee that newly married women pay.  He got a new passport, driver's license, everything.

Then last December, he got a letter from the Florida DMV accusing him of, "obtaining a license by fraud", and they suspended his license.  Turns out they saw Lazaro got a license under a new name and immediately assumed FRAUD, because no one thought he might've taken his wife's name.

His license was suspended for a few weeks, until his story hit the news, and the DMV dropped the fraud charge.
