One in 25 Americans Cheat on Their Taxes as Much as Possible

2/28/2013

One in 25 Americans are out there preparing their taxes right now, and counting the toaster, the microwave, and their cable box as dependants.  The IRS just released the results of their annual survey on Americans and their attitude toward taxes. And 4% of people said they believe it's cool to cheat AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE on your taxes. That's one in 25, just cheating like crazy.

On the more positive side, 87% of people say it's totally unacceptable to cheat on your taxes at ALL. 7% took the middle position, and said it's probably okay to cheat,  "a little here and there."

The main reason people give for being honest on taxes is PERSONAL INTEGRITY.  86% of people say they believe they should do their taxes honestly because of their personal integrity. Only 40% say they're motivated to be honest by the chance of an audit.
