Winter Storm Jonas, By the Numbers

Don’t know if you heard, but this weekend there was a blizzard or something.  Here are some stats on its EPICNESS:

1.  There were at least 29 deaths because of the storm.  Car accidents were the main cause, people having heart attacks while they shoveled snow was second and carbon monoxide poisoning was third.

2.  New York City got 26.8 inches, which JUST missed the all-time record.  They got 26.9 inches in 2006.  And it was also the second-largest snowstorm in Washington D.C. history.

3.  Baltimore got 29.2 inches, which is their all time record.

4.  This is the first time that New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. have all gotten 18 inches of snow from the same storm.

5.  And Glengary, West Virginia got the most snow of anywhere, 40 INCHES.

Blizzard Round-Up: Diving Into Snow, Snowboarding in NYC, a Shirtless Guy from Wisconsin, and More

Winter Storm Jonas dumped an ungodly amount of snow on the northeast this weekend, and a bunch of blizzard videos are making the rounds online.

People diving into snow banks from their porches and WINDOWS became a “thing” over the weekend.  Hopefully no one broke their neck.  (Search for “People Flinging Themselves Into the Snow During the Blizzard.”)

Some guys in New York used their Jeep to tow each other around the city on skis and snowboards, and set it to the song, “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra.  And they called the video Snowboarding with the NYPD, because a cop pulls them over at the end, but lets them go.

A group from Indianapolis called the Endless Summer Band got stranded on a highway in Kentucky in their R.V. for over 13 HOURS on Friday.  So they killed time by covering “Stuck in the Middle with You” by Stealers Wheel.  But they made all the lyrics about the storm, and called it, Stuck on the Highway with You.

A guy in Nashville walked through a reporter’s shot with no SHIRT on last Friday.  And when the reporter asked if he was cold, he said he was from Wisconsin and just kept walking.   (“Wisconsin Man Walks Through Nashville in Snowstorm.”)

A video of a guy shoveling snow in Kentucky is all over Facebook . . . because he did it in a Tyrannosaurus rex costume. (“T-Rex Shoveling Snow.”)

And finally, the National Zoo in D.C. posted a video of one of its pandas rolling around in the snow on Saturday.  Then someone in Maryland recreated it in a panda suit.  (Search for “Tian Tian in the Snow” and “Panda Suit Tian Tian Challenge.”)
