Roseanne Barr Breaks Down In First Interview Since Scandal

In an emotional interview, Roseanne Barr said she definitely feels remorse for the racist tweet that prompted ABC to cancel the revival of “Roseanne.” Barr recorded a podcast interview with her longtime friend, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who on Sunday published an edited transcript and recording of the conversation. In the interview, Barr claims she “never would have wittingly called any black person a monkey. What can I do now except say of course, I’m not a racist, I’m an idiot.  Barr spoke tearfully for much of the interview, her first since the cancellation of “Roseanne.”  Barr said of her tweet that she “didn’t mean what they think I meant. But I have to face that it hurt people. When you hurt people even unwillingly there’s no excuse. I don’t want to run off and blather on with excuses. But I apologize to anyone who thought, or felt offended and who thought that I meant something that I, in fact, did not mean. It was my own ignorance, and there’s no excuse for that ignorance.”

Guests included the pair’s “Game of Thrones” co-stars Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clarke and John Bradley. ABC Announces ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff Without Roseanne Barr Called ‘The Conners’

ABC will air a new “Roseanne” spinoff series called “The Conners” ― minus any involvement from Roseanne Barr, the network announced Thursday. The project was green-lit just weeks after the network canceled a reboot of Barr’s eponymous show following a series of racist comments the actress posted to Twitter about former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett. The new sitcom will debut with 10 episodes, and is set to premiere in Fall 2018.  “Roseanne” series stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman will return. “The Conners” will air in “Roseanne’s” vacated Tuesdays from 8 p.m.-8:30 p.m. time slot. ABC said in a statement, “The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love,. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”
