The website “The Topical Fruit” posted a list of 10 things that happened 10 years ago this week. Here’s what was in the news exactly one decade ago . . .
1. Caitlyn Jenner introduced herself to the world. Her famous “Vanity Fair” cover landed June 1st, 2015 with the headline, “Call Me Caitlyn.”
2. Kim Kardashian revealed she was pregnant again. It was her second of four kids with ex-husband, and former sane person, Kanye West. Their son Saint was born that December.
3. Thongs were going out of style. “The New York Times” did a story on how thong sales were slipping and women were opting for granny panties instead.
4. YouTube’s 10th birthday video was trending. It marked the 10th anniversary of YouTube’s beta version that launched in May 2005. They recently announced there are now over 20 BILLION videos on YouTube.
5. The Duggars were in meltdown. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar from “19 Kids and Counting” did their first interview following news that their oldest son Josh had “improperly touched” four of his younger sisters. The show was cancelled a month later.
6. Tracy Morgan did his first interview a year after he almost died in that terrible car crash. Sadly, his longtime collaborator James McNair didn’t survive.
7. IHOP updated their logo to make it happier. They decided their old one looked like a frown, so they gave it a smiley face look.
8. A guy’s long-neck mugshot went viral. He was accused of stealing $3,000 worth of antique coins from a store. But the only question anyone was asking was, “How is his neck that long?” (Here’s the photo.)
9. The Broadway casts of “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” got stranded at an airport together and had an epic sing-off.
10. The trailer for “Sharknado 3“ landed. They ended up making six of them in the span of five years, from 2013 to 2018.
