1. This week, Shohei Ohtani hit into the 740th triple play in Major League Baseball’s 149-year history. There are around three or four of them per season. “Unassisted” triple plays are more rare. That hasn’t happened since 2009.
2. ‘N Sync didn’t just get its name because the guys were “in sync.” It uses the last letter of each of the five original members’ first names: JustiN, ChriS, JoeY, JasoN, and JC. But Jason was replaced by Lance Bass, which screwed it all up.
3. Pez dispensers were designed to look like cigarette lighters, because they were supposed to encourage people to stop smoking and have a mint instead.
4. Macaulay Culkin was the first child actor ever to get $1 million for a movie, he got that for his role in “My Girl”. (He got $4.5 million the following year for “Home Alone 2”, and $8 million two years later for “Richie Rich”.)
5. The “Get Out of Jail Free” card from Monopoly was a real thing. In England in 1567, there was a lottery to raise money for the navy, and the winner got a “get out of jail free” card to excuse them from everything but the most serious crimes.
