Oh No, This Could Be the Next Big Thing: “Stretchy Yogurt”

The good thing about TikTok “trends” is they’re usually short-lived.  But this might have a chance of sticking around, for better or worse.

There’s a new trend called “stretchy yogurt.”  It originally became a hit in China, and now has shops in New York City and a few other places.  (One place in particular is called Mamie’s Yogurt.)

It’s a little like the customized frozen yogurt trend from the early 2000s, just with “elasticity and a gummy texture.”  (???)  Here’s how it works:

You choose a stretchy yogurt.  It has the consistency of melted chocolate.  They’re apparently a little guarded about WHAT creates this texture.  The flavors include “five vegetable,” “five grain,” “mango,” and “coconut.”

You get to choose several different fruits, along with one “wet topping” and a “dry topping.”  It’s usually served in a big cup with a spoon.

(Here’s video of one person ordering.  And another.  It’s also possible to try making it at home.)
