New in Theaters: “Good Fortune” and the Horror Movie “Black Phone 2”

1.  “Good Fortune”  (R)

Keanu Reeves plays a well-meaning but inept guardian angel who meddles in the lives of Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen by having them swap lives to try to prove to Aziz that money won’t solve all his problems.

It’s written and directed by Aziz.  Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh are also in it.

2.  “Black Phone 2”  (R)  Trailer

This is a sequel to the 2021 supernatural horror film “The Black Phone” where Ethan Hawke played a killer called The Grabber who abducts and murders children, until Finn (Mason Thames) kills him with help from ghosts of previous victims, who communicate with him through the phone where he’s being held.

It takes place four years later, with Finn still dealing with the trauma of his own kidnapping, as his psychic sister Gwen (Madeliene McGraw) starts having visions of the Grabber’s return and more mutilated children.

 

 

3.  “The Astronaut”  (Not Yet Rated)  Trailer

Kate Mara is an astronaut who crash lands back on Earth but worries that something may have followed her back from space after she’s placed in quarantine for rehabilitation.  Gabriel Luna plays her husband and Laurence Fishburne is the general in charge of the crash investigation.

 

 

4.  “After the Hunt”  (R)  (Expands Nationwide)

A psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts as a respected professor grappling with her own secretive past after a friend (Andrew Garfield) is accused of assaulting one of her students (Ayo Edebiri).
