It’s often a compliment when someone calls you a celebrity doppelganger, even if you know you’re more of a “poor man’s” version of that celebrity. But now there’s a special slang word for that.
Gen Z’ers have been tossing around a new term: CHOPPELGANGER.
It means you look like someone’s doppelganger, but a little UGLIER. It’s “choppelganger” because the word “chopped” is now being used to call people or things “unattractive” or “undesirable.”
Choppelganger has been picking up steam in recent months, after someone on social media apparently coined it last year.
For example, on TikTok, a woman claims people refer to her as Mick Jagger’s choppelganger, and said, “If you think someone has a choppelganger, keep it to your [dang] self.”
(Obviously, this sounds RUDE. And it can be. But it’s often used with a more playful tone, rather than a straight-up insult.)
