There’s a new poll out on household chores, and it shows that there’s a clear split on who does various tasks, and who ENJOYS what.
The data shows men are mostly responsible for taking out the trash, car maintenance, and yardwork. And they mostly enjoy those things.
46% of men say they like doing yardwork, 34% like working on vehicles, and 33% enjoy taking out the trash. Women are far less likely to say they like doing those things.
Women are typically responsible for a lot more, including: Cleaning and organizing, dusting, making the beds, sweeping and mopping, doing the laundry, washing dishes, and vacuuming.
Women are more likely to say they enjoy tidying, cleaning and organizing (the kitchen, specifically), making beds, and laundry. But they are LESS likely to say they enjoy stuff like washing dishes, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping, dusting, and cleaning bathrooms.
There are two things that men and women BOTH enjoy doing, and those are: Preparing meals and grocery shopping. (Yes, even in this economy.)
Women are more likely than men to say they do “more than their fair share” of household tasks.
And COINCIDENTALLY, men are more likely than women to say they’re “satisfied” with the division of household chores.
(Think about your household. Are you pulling your weight? If not, or if you’re not sure, how about surprising your partner and asking them which task they do, but enjoy the LEAST. And then, offer to take that off their plate. That should score some points.)
