2018 Emmy Awards: ‘Game of Thrones’ And ‘Westworld’ Lead Nominations

The nominations for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning, with shows like “Westworld” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” in the front of the pack with multiple nods for their stars, including Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright. Elizabeth Moss and Samira Wiley. Newcomers like Rachel Brosnahan also earned honors for her work on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Big names like Donald Glover for “Atlanta,” Milo Ventimiglia for “This Is Us,” Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross for “Black-ish,” Larry David for “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and many more earned nods in their respective categories. “Game of Thrones” had the most nominations with 22, followed by “Saturday Night Live” and “Westworld,” who both earned 21.  Colin Jost and Michael Che from “Saturday Night Live” are slated to host this year’s Emmy Awards, which will air Monday, Sept. 17.

Joaquin Phoenix To Star In “Joker” Origin Story For Warner Bros.

Joaquin Phoenix will star in Warner Bros. forthcoming origin film about the Joker, the comic-book villain, with “The Hangover’s” Todd Phillips directing. The movie, which begins production later this year, centers around Batman’s arch nemesis and is billed as “an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen,” according to a statement from Warner Bros. “Phillips’ exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” the statement read. It’s unclear if Phoenix will actually play the notorious DC Comics villain (though that appears to be the case. Phillips, who’s best known for comedies such as “Old School” and “War Dogs,” co-wrote the screenplay with “The Fighter” scribe Scott Silver. The film will be produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff and executive produced by Richard Baratta.

Kylie Jenner Makes Cover Of Forbes Magazine As Next “Youngest-Ever Self-Made Billionaire”

Kylie Jenner, the 20-year-old beauty entrepreneur, made Forbes’ annual list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women. Coming in at number 27 with an estimated net worth of $900 million, Jenner is the founder of Kylie Cosmetics with virtually no employees or capital. Kylie Cosmetics launched two years ago and has since sold more than $630 million worth of makeup. According to Forbes, Kylie Cosmetics is now worth nearly $800 million and Jenner owns 100 percent of the company. Jenner, who is featured on the magazine’s cover, is the youngest person to ever make the list.

Reese Witherspoon To Interview Trailblazing Women For Her New Talk Show

Reese Witherspoon is making her first foray into the world of unscripted television with the half-hour series “Shine On With Reese” where she’ll interview trailblazing women about their journey to success.  The series will find a home on a new video on demand network created for Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine. It will premiere exclusive content on DirecTV, DirecTV Now and U-verse. “Shine On With Reese,” which premieres July 17, will celebrate “the stories of extraordinary women who have created their own unique paths to success,” according to a press release, with host Witherspoon leading conversations about “their perspectives on ambition, work, family and hopes for the future.”

George Clooney Recovering At His Home Following Scooter Crash In Italy

George Clooney was taken to the hospital in Sardinia and released after being involved in an accident while riding his motorbike, hospital officials said. Clooney has been shooting the Hulu miniseries ‘Catch-22’ on Sardinia.  Clooney’s rep said in a statement on Tuesday, “George was treated and released from an Olbia hospital. He is recovering at home and will be fine.” The John Paul II hospital in Olbia said Clooney was released Tuesday.  Local news said the 57-year-old Clooney had been headed to set on Tuesday when his scooter was hit by a car. He was taken to the emergency room after complaining of “a slight trauma to the pelvis and bruises to one leg and an arm.” The accident occurred near Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia.  Reports also said that Clooney was driving 60 mph when he was thrown from his bike and that he traveled 20 feet in the air before hitting the car’s windshield; his helmet shattered on impact. Clooney has a home on the Italian mainland on Lake Como. Production on the limited series Catch-22 is expected to continue as planned.
